Designer Angie Hranowsky had this bed custom made to bring a fun, tropical energy into the bedroom of her clients' Sullivan's Island, South Carolina, bungalow.

The layers of blues, whites, and tans do more than enough to capture the style, but the ceramic bells hanging from rope above the bed do add a nice touch. Part of what we all love about the coast is the endless sunshine, and you can't capture midday sunlight without the color yellow. Pickart and Polsby wanted a crisp yellow-and-white color scheme in this bedroom, so they chose a sunny palm frond wallcovering to give it a pleasant brightness.

In this bedroom, designer Alison Pickart and Katy Polsby, owner of the wallpaper and textiles company CW Stockwell, used green textiles and blue accents to craft a space that looks like it belongs in a luxurious hotel. JBD and JGASince 1983 Studio JBD and JGA have worked together seamlessly to successfully complete an array of award-winning design projects delivering full-service solutions for everything from master planning and architecture, to interior design, and procurement. Ashley Gilbreath decorated this bedroom in a more traditional style, bringing in coastal touches through the wallpaper, wall art, wicker basket, and soft color palette. LUCAS STUDIO, INCKnown for a classic East Coast traditional style meets West Coast cool, the firmhas completed residential projects in Los Angeles, Montana, Florida, Chicago, Memphis, Philadelphia and several houses in Rumson, Little Silver and Bay Head, NJ. If you're also trying to capture that escapist vibes year-round, then know that the right home decor is one of the best ways to bottle those warm-weather feelings. Our favorite design aesthetic to look to for inspiration as soon as the average temperature gets above 60 is the breezy coastal style—not to be confused with the more retro-inspired surf style. While we'd love for our entire house to look like the set of a Nancy Meyers movie, we'd argue that one of the best places to embrace it is where you head to relax. great beach location

They put us on the 9th floor so I wasn't able to go out and look at the ocean very much. We booked the room at least 6months ahead, other than them putting us on the 9th floor the stay was great. We had access to three different pools, sauna. We have booked a room for august of this year also, and requested again not to be put past the 4th or 5th floor. Love the Dayton House, room was clean and not far from things to do, only spent one night, would stay there again.

Pools & Water Attractions

We had one room that was ocean view that was dated but served its purpose. Plenty of parking and staff were helpful with questions and any concerns. The Dayton house employees were nice and friendly. The accommodations were excellent.

Have been staying here for many, many years. Have come alone and with friends, family and kids. Very nice, comfortable accommodations. Great pools and a wonderful beach lawn.

Rather it's a collection of five buildings with a total of 328 rooms. Each building houses its own separate lobby. That means that the layout can be a bit confusing for some guests at first. Guests may have to go to another building if they want to use the pool.

Dayton House Resort Review: What To REALLY Expect If You Stay

dayton house resort myrtle beach

That is probably the highlight here - and it is a big highlight. We have stayed numerous times at Dayton House. The location is great, close to everything you would want to do. The buildings are older and some rooms need to be updated. While we were there they were updating the South tower. All in all we enjoy the location no matter what time of year we go.

Nice visit with Grandkids

Some rooms also include sliding doors that separate the master bedrooms from the rest of the units, as well as wall beds. All the rooms have balconies and some look out at the ocean. Room decor is a bit bland and additional amenities -- such as the small fitness center and business center -- are nothing special, but freebies like Wi-Fi and parking add to the value.

I liked the location, we were close to everything and could walk. I would ask for a room on a higher floor (we were on the 2nd floor) just to be further away from the pool. I would go again...the price was good for ocean front, the room was perfect for us. Loved everything about Dayton House-rooms were nice n clean, beds were comfy, location was great, right on the beach. Our ocean front rooms were great and had kitchenettes and a balcony.

We truly believe these are the best all-around boats on offer. Join us aboard the OIFC World Cat or Carolina Cat for great fishing adventures. This protective instinct, coupled with a strong sense of identity and belonging, forms the backbone of the song. It’s a narrative born out of necessity, a response to a world that often feels threatening and unpredictable. In essence, the song is a multifaceted exploration of self-defense, identity, and community. It’s a musical embodiment of resilience and a testament to the enduring human spirit.

welcome to the my house

How did Welcome to My House become so popular?

This is the oldest standing residence in the city, built by wealthy cattle rancher Francisco Avila, whose extensive 4,439-acre land grant covered much of Beverly Hills and the Miracle Mile district. Though visitors only see about half of the original house, it’s well-preserved with an interesting mix of Spanish, Mission and ranchero influences. Master woodworker Sam Maloof and his carpenters designed and built this lovely, thoughtful home piece by piece in his on-site workshop; no two door openings are the same here, and each joint is a wonder of craftsmanship. A MacArthur Genius Grant recipient, Maloof has had his iconic rocking chairs shown at the Smithsonian; he also designed the chairs that were used on-camera at the history-changing Nixon/Kennedy debates. Visitors can see some of this furniture, as well as the wide-ranging collection of arts-and-craft pieces that he and his wife of 50 years, Alfreda, amassed together. The garden, which he tended, and the house are both open for tours; if you ask, you might be able to peek into the workshop, where he continued building until his death in 2009 at the age of 93.

On one hand, you need to see what makes the eagle distinctive from other similar birds. Pay attention to the shape of the beak, the head and body ratio, and other details you could exaggerate later to make your character undeniably an eagle. 3D drawing figures are useful when you can’t decide on the body shape of your character. In addition, you can adjust the body shape according to the features of the character you want to create, such as slender or muscular.

Finding Perspective In Paintings

When you’re ready to paint in your colors, use a blend mode such as “Color” in Photoshop in order to tint your value tones with the appropriate color. Finally, you should base your decision on the image file type the client wants. Scott Anderson, whose illustrations grace major publishing and editorial platforms, will join Visual Arts Passage as a Guest Artist. He’ll share his process, career journey, and wisdom with our students. Character design is like panning for gold, it’s slow and meticulous, and almost everything you draw will be thrown away. But hidden within the mud are a few small nuggets of gold that can be extracted and refined into something beautiful.

Still, even from a pencil sketch you can imagine the personalities of these characters, which remain consistent. You will need access to drawing materials, or image-making software if you prefer to work digitally. Of course, before you send your presentation off to your client, it’s a good idea to take a step back and evaluate honestly how you yourself respond to the finished character. Value is an art term that refers to light and shadow, and as this can be a challenge in and of itself, it is best to separate value from color.

Focusing on Character Art

Using the rule of big and small, you’ll be able to create a pleasing design even if your drawing skills aren’t too strong. Delivering concpets that looks professional is key to maintaining a paying job in the industry. You’ll also learn how the artist implies a sense of scale and why he starts out with a shadow shape before continuing onto fine line details. Feng begins with a loose blocking stage, filling out the compositions and defining shapes of distant snowy mountains. The tutorial is led by professional instructor Feng Zhu who works in the industry and manages his own concept art school called FZD School of Design.

With Maya, artists can bring their character designs to life by sculpting and shaping 3D models, defining their proportions, and adding intricate details. This software enables concept artists to visualize their characters from multiple angles, helping to ensure that every aspect of the design is well-thought-out and visually appealing.

By staying committed to your craft and seeking opportunities for growth, you can carve out a successful and fulfilling career as a concept artist. Inside the Most Comprehensive Compendium of Midcentury-Modern Architecture Ever

mid century modern house

To the far right, red artworks from Bosco Sodi can be seen above a Mangiarotti marble table. Add this popular design style to your home with our inspirational guides and expert-approved tips. Though inspired by the unprecedented designs of Frank Lloyd Wright and the avant-garde approach of Bauhaus artists, Mid-Century Modern put a novel spin on architecture. Here, we explore the groundbreaking genre, highlighting its unique look and key characteristics.

Garage Plan Collections

In the sunken living room, which showcases a monumental copper fireplace alongside built-in sofas, the copious wood paneling feels a bit incongruous with the original, clean-lined design. Generous ceiling heights, a lighter color palette, and floor-to-ceiling windows, however, ensure the room feels airy and bright. Flat planes, clean lines, and little ornamentation characterize both the exteriors—which often feature monochromatic brickwork and pops of color—and the matching interiors of mid-century modern homes. At the time of the book’s publishing, 22 of the structures featured have been torn down, with another slated for demolition.

Sloping Roofline and Stone Exterior

The boxy and minimalistic exterior of the Mid-Century Modern home tends to be monochromatic and neutral, with earth tones using brick or wood-paneled siding. When soldiers returned from World War II, they built midcentury homes all across the United States—meaning, you'll find midcentury modern homes in virtually every town and state. Use rugs or plants or bookshelves to create your own dividers that suit you and your family’s needs in these architectural floor plans. You can find mid century modern homes just about anywhere in America, with slightly different variations. The originals are mostly tucked into the hillsides of Southern California – notably Palm Springs – and you'll find everything from bungalow style homes and stilted silhouettes are dotted all along the streets of Los Angeles and Long Beach. The postwar Case Study Houses program—created and sponsored by Arts and Architecture—also resulted in many key examples of midcentury-modern houses.

Plan: #158-1303

Straight lines and right angles are essential to midcentury modern architecture. Although many modern ranch-style homes feature gabled roofs or asymmetrical exteriors, most midcentury modern homes have flat roofs with straight lines. Taking influences from Bauhaus and American high-prairie style homes, midcentury modern architecture was brought to the United States by European architects fleeing Nazi Germany. Some original midcentury modern designers include Walter Gropius, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, and Marcel Breuer. Frank Lloyd Wright, the father of modern architecture, actually trained many midcentury modern architects. Palm trees and Pacific Ocean views aside, California’s spectacular midcentury-modern homes are one of its most memorable sights.

Plan: #202-1019

Pierre Koenig, Eero Saarinen, A. Quincy Jones, and the Eameses were among the modern architects who designed homes in response to it, though not all of the homes were constructed. Some have been remodeled into oblivion and some of them have been demolished, but 20 remain standing today according to Forbes. "I think the biggest thing that stood out to me was the architecture of the home because mid-century modern homes are so rare for the area," she said.

Characterized by a contemporary, seemingly futuristic aesthetic and an emphasis on function, the mid-century modern movement influenced many types of design. These include interior, product, industrial, and graphic design, as well as urban planning and architecture, which remains the most well-known mid-century modern example. During the 20th century, architects turned their attention from traditional designs to more original aesthetics.

For John Ike, a partner of San Francisco–based architecture and design firm Ike Baker Velten, the continued draw to midcentury-modern architecture seems to be a product of specific design elements. “I think it’s really the materials, the open flowing spaces, and the real sunny feel to them that draws people to the architectural style to this day,” explains Ike, who lives in a midcentury-modern home himself in San Diego. Located in prestigious lower Bel Air is a stunning Mid-Century Modern and ultra-private estate on nearly an acre of land.

The house also proves just how wonderful a feature can be even without sunny Southern California weather. Probably the most minimalist among the midcentury-modern homes included here, the Farnsworth House was first built as a country house for Edith Farnsworth, a doctor, violinist, and architecture patron. Discover the timeless allure of mid-century modern home design as we explore enchanting exteriors that have stood the test of time. With their clean lines, seamless integration of indoor and outdoor spaces, and masterful use of natural materials, these architectural gems continue to captivate homeowners and design enthusiasts alike.

Although some midcentury modern styles are more ornate than others, simplicity is a key characteristic of the movement. Simple furnishings with clean lines and a muted color palette complement the homes' simple exteriors. Midcentury modern colors include warm earth tones such as orange, brown, mustard, or golden yellow. Though these are popular colors from this period, not all of these colors are found in every home of this style. Across the country, other formats of mid century modern house design came to prominence, but using more winter-worthy materials like brick to construct their signature looks.

The stage was set for midcentury-modern design by visionary architects and designers that preceded the period. Frank Lloyd Wright is undeniably the most influential figure on the period. Hallmarks of his buildings—site-specific designs, the consideration for flow between the spaces, and his dedication to the use of wood paneling—are all prominent features of midcentury-modern homes. Since then, the movement — including architecture and interior design elements, furniture, and accessories — has only grown. To encourage this, rooms will often have multiple outdoor views and access points to nature, large floor-to-ceiling windows, or sliding doors to allow natural light to enter and encourage a sense of harmony with the outdoor spaces. You’ll also see a connection to nature in other forms, such as the use of raw materials and houseplants as decoration.

As you’ll soon find, each one displays a fresh contemporary take on a now classic style. After World War II, Americans put a major emphasis on lifestyle, family time, and spending time in nature. To showcase their unmistakably modernist approach to everyday architecture, mid-century modern architects employed geometric forms and asymmetrical compositions in their designs. Unlike structures built in popular preceding styles—including Beaux-Arts and Arts and Crafts—mid-century modern homes exhibit little historic influence and lack visual formality. Mid century modern homes are characterized by the geometric lines of the architecture, flat, angled roofs that extend beyond the walls, and flat surfaces without ornamentation.

A few hours north of New York City, for example, pupils of the legendary modernist architect Frank Lloyd Wright built an entire town of case study homes using mid century modern design, dubbed 'Usonia'. The architectural style became popular post-World War II and drew inspiration from the Bauhaus, and later Modernist, movements. Mid-century modern house plans inspire designers, architects, and homeowners alike. Homeowners ' love hasn't waned more than half a century after this style was introduced.

In the middle of the 20th century, many artists began working in an abstract style, re-imagining traditional art and pioneering a new aesthetic. This interest in abstract forms is also present in the architecture of the time, as demonstrated by mid-century modern's minimalist appearance. The organic style emphasizes blending indoor-outdoor living to embrace their natural surroundings.

While cleaning out the home, they found some of the original furniture, old photos of what the house looked like before, and a record player that was hooked up to speakers all over the house. This time, it’s a relatively modest, four-bedroom, three-bath dwelling in Medina, WA, listed for $4,988,800. The more-than-2,400-square-foot house last changed hands in 2003 for $1,310,000, records show. The design harmonizes the house’s original mid-century character with inventive insertions. Expansive windows and strategically placed mirrors alongside internal relights accentuate brightness, creating a lively atmosphere that permeates throughout the home. This careful manipulation of space and light ensures every corner of Lark House feels both exclusive and interconnected.

Mid century modern homes have appeared everywhere from Slim Aarons famous photographs of backyard parties to noir films from the 1960s. But mid century modern homes are the most recent style of architecture and house design to be given an iconic status among design historians. From their furniture with Herman Miller to designing for IBM, the influence of Charles and Ray Eames over our contemporary understanding of midcentury-modern style cannot be overstated.

The style continues to influence contemporary architecture in ways big and small, so below, with the help of four industry experts, we’ve broken it all down from you—from the history to the most famous examples that still stand today. Attention to detail is evident in the choice of materials and fixtures throughout the house. In the kitchen, custom cabinetry and high-grade woodwork blend the house’s original architectural elements with new, modern additions. The installation of a Nero Marquina Marble island and a walk-up coffee bar enhances functionality while maintaining aesthetic allure. The primary bedroom saw a strategic remolding to foster privacy and serenity, including a modified entrance through an enlarged walk-in closet and a repositioned two-way fireplace. The internal layout was meticulously restructured to enhance the entry of natural light and offer expansive views of the surrounding landscape, aligning with Bumgardner’s original architectural vision.

The hallmark of these mid-century modern exteriors lies in their ability to blend effortlessly with the surrounding environment, often achieved through large windows and sliding glass doors that invite abundant natural light and provide breathtaking views. We’ll see how flat or low-sloping roofs create a distinctive visual appeal, while carefully selected accents and landscaping choices enhance the overall aesthetic. Mid-century modern house plans refer to architectural designs that emerged in the mid-20th century (1940s-1960s). These plans typically feature open floor plans, large windows, integration with nature, and a focus on simplicity and functionality. Characterized by clean lines, low-pitched or flat rooflines, organic shapes, and an emphasis on indoor-outdoor living, mid-century modern house plans celebrate the marriage of form and function. Mid-Century Modern houses were designed to be aesthetically beautiful and functional, with a large focus on family.

While they wait for their new Brentwood digs to be completed, Pratt and Schwarzenegger continue to own their “old” house, a heavily renovated mansion in the hills of Pacific Palisades. The contemporary Mediterranean-style manor, given an extensive refresh during the couple’s tenure, remains on the open market, asking $30 million. Although the Zimmerman house was never listed on the open market, the property was quietly sold last January, just months after Hilda’s death, for $12.5 million. Materials such as white oak and vertical-grain fir are juxtaposed against classic finishes, respecting the architectural pedigree while introducing a personalized touch reflecting the owners’ vibrant, globe-trotting past.

Mid century modern homes are residential, single-family homes built using modernist principles and design tactics like cantilevered walls, flat-facing surfaces, and simple lines. Midcentury modern is a term that’s thrown around a lot these days, but what is it really? Midcentury-modern architecture is not simply anything that was designed and built in the middle of the 20th century, but in fact an architectural style with a defined set of principles and influences.

His eagle eye for midcentury fixer-uppers is was what first drew him to a house on Rising Glen Road in Los Angeles. “I’m always looking for places to either renovate or to buy, to move up the ladder,” Statham says. It was quite downtrodden and had been neglected, as most of these of midcenturies have.” Statham quickly decided to purchase the place and gut renovate it to serve as a multi-use property for guests, as well as his office and gym. The exterior of the home seen from street level shows the cantilevered roofs, and it also exemplifies Lautner’s vision to design the very anthesis of a boxed home. All products featured on Architectural Digest are independently selected by our editors.

However, the movement became popularized in the 1950s, so some of the original mid-century modern homes will be from that era. Families often struggled financially and were too worried about soldiers away at war to be concerned with interior design elements. The appeal of the mid-century modern style comes from its ability to nod toward nostalgia while taking steps toward modern living. This old-meets-new style combines simple designs with dramatic accents to create something almost effortlessly beautiful.

The bassist and singer did not know anything about the architect Harold “Hal” Levitt when shopping for a home in Los Angeles with his wife Skye Hoppus back in 2004. It was only after the couple fell in love with and purchased a midcentury-modern house by Levitt that they learned about his legacy. Our mission is to help people visualize, create & maintain beautiful homes. We bring to you inspiring visuals of cool homes, specific spaces, architectural marvels and new design trends. Function is the framework and foundation for designing a Mid-Century Modern space. Similar to the Scandinavian approach, Mid-Century Modern homes consist of warm, inviting tones, versatile furniture, and understated decoration, emphasizing the room’s function.

More than 60 houses, however, have been designated as heritage sites, ensuring their survival. And with books like this atlas drumming up even more interest in the style, hopefully more structures will be preserved as crucial pieces of architectural history. In the design world, is there any style that’s having more of a Renaissance moment than midcentury modern?

HW Daredevils 2016 New Models: CRUISE BRUISER

hot wheels cruise bruiser

It may be a pretty young casting collection, but its one that has gotten plenty of coverage here on OTD. Would you like to see more #Demolition Derby Vehicles of this nature? My affinity for the #Cruise Bruiser started back in 2015 when the casting was first released as part of the 2016 HW Daredevils series. Its a jacked-up, #Demolition Derby Vehicle reminiscent of late ’60s / early ’70s land yachts — especially the Oldsmobile Vista Cruiser.

Last Super, Treasure Hunts, Chase ID and Zamac for Mainline Hot Wheels.

So when I said the Hot Wheels Cruise Bruiser takes me back to my childhood, you can see why. This car would have been perfect for the demolition derby had it been made in the 1980s (since it most likely would have been all metal). To my recollection, Hot Wheels has never done a demolition derby specific casting. We’ve seen releases to the liking of the Demolition Derby 5-Pack (in 2010), but none of the castings were any you would see in a real demolition derby. So it would have been really cool to have a real demolition derby car as a kid instead of crashing a bunch of high-end exotic cars into each other. When images of the design first surfaced, many collectors wondered what this “crocodile offspring of Mickey Mouse wearing sunglasses and sporting a killer mustache” represented and now you can be safely assured, its purely from the mind of Robert Heath.

Super Treasure Hunts: Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Hot Wheels 2023

hot wheels cruise bruiser

Since the #Cruise Bruiser was selected to be one of 15 Super #Treasure Hunts in the #2017 Hot Wheels mainline, its always fun to compare the $TH release with the common release. Sure, there is the #Real Riders versus standard basic wheels comparison, and also the #Spectraflame Paint versus enamel paint comparison, but those take a back seat to the added/alternate graphics on this release.
